How long can depression last?

We mostly think that those that seem unhappy most of the time are depressed. But this is no often the case. Studies have shown that those that have a happy demeanor more often than not are more depressed. They just try to mask it with smiley faces.

So it is misleading to conclude that seemingly happy people cannot be depressed.

The length of a depression largely depends on the depression, the individual and the mode of treatment sought. It’s not constant as it can range from a few weeks to many years.

Major depression requires intensive care and support to reduce the life span.
Persistent Depressive Disorder is a milder depression, though it can last longer but the people affected can still function normally apart from feeling sad some days.

What is your opinion on this?

There was this meme I saw of two people, one is smiling widely and the other is not. It’s the person smiling that was actually diagnosed with depression and not the other. So I agree with you.
