How do you know someone is depressed?

How can I know a depressed person if I wasn't told? They are so good in masking their feelings and emotions. Without them saying so, I won't know.
If you're very close to anyone who's depressed, even if they don't say it directly to your hearing, you will find out from the kind of remarks they are making about life generally.

Depression experts are able to tell this after a little interaction with depressed people. They can try to hide it from the masses, but those that can tell can tell.
If someone who's depressed comes into a closed office space with a therapist, they will find out from interacting with them. It's not a rocket science. If they see someone walking on the road, they're never going to find out by just looking at them.

Someone who is depressed will always be disconnecting from people and it will be very obvious. Whenever I see someone that is not interested in having a life in a social setting, I think they are depressed.

But this is not always the case when you take a critical look at it. Most depressed people do not show it in their outward appearance.
