Can a bad breakup make you depressed?

It's true that depression does not have a single cause, it can be a combination of thing and events. In my experience, the loss of a loved one is the leading cause of depression.
When someone that used to be an integral part of one's life is no longer there, there is a high chance the affected person will fall into depression.

Do you agree?

I have come to understand that a really bad breakup can make one depressed. If you have someone that you have made a focal point of your life, breaking up with them can be disastrous.
This can eventually lead to depression for some people. This includes divorce in the marriage as well.

What do you think?
